Most people don’t even realize it. They try to be efficient in the office and happy at home, but when there is clutter all around, it can be difficult to concentrate, be productive and not feel troubled with daily chores. Studies show that organized offices create a more productive space. And, a tidy home without clutter can be more cheerful with a sense of a lighter feeling. So, if you want to be happier and more productive, start with decluttering your environment. Your environment can be whatever you choose it to be. Perhaps your house. Perhaps your work place. Perhaps it’s the company you keep or technology you use often.
Let’s apply that old rule…. subtract then add. Before you bring anything else into your life, take time to rid the clutter. If your home has clutter, start with just one room so that you don’t get overwhelmed with the process. Decide how to position your furniture so that your room flows with good energy. Have you ever seen a big, bulky couch right inside a doorway? It immediately gives a feeling of being blocked or clutter. Next, you can look around the room and look at the ‘stuff’. Do you have too many items sitting around? If you don’t want to get rid of an item, consider moving it to another room where it will be more special and less clutter. Don’t forget the drawers and cabinets! Junk piled up, even in drawers can give you a sense of chaos. Organizing these areas, surprisingly, can make you feel much more productive. Once you get a room completed, you’ll naturally get motivated to move on to the next room and feel better as you go along!
Doing the same process at the office can improve attitude which usually leads to improved productivity. Even when people know exactly what papers are in the piles on their desk, having the piles can create chaos and the clutter can interfere with doing daily tasks. Take time to organize your work space. Create files, make a place for everything, even if it needs to remain in your eye sight, you can still declutter the mess by organizing and once you have some new habits, you’ll be more efficient and happier with a clean area!
Decluttering instantly lightens the load, mentally and physically. Take time to assess what needs decluttered in your life and make a change!
