It’s the month of May. Spring is underway and we’re thinking about Summer and being outside.
Doesn’t it seem easier to get movement when the weather is nice? Simply getting outside in the
sunshine for a nice walk allows you to get movement and fresh air. Somehow, doing that always
makes me feel better, more energetic and happier. Planning even a quick 15-20 minutes each
day outside can make a huge difference to your physical and mental well-being.
One of the best tips I’ve heard is to focus on the type of movement that you enjoy. It makes
sense, doesn’t it? If we plan to do the activity that we like, we are more likely to do it. If we
don’t enjoy the activity, we will dread it and find ways to avoid it.
But, what kind of movement could we do when it’s cold and rainy outside? Setting up a small,
home gym area allows you to get movement inside. It doesn’t have to be a large space or filled
with a lot of expensive equipment; just a designated area that you can visit that will allow you to
mentally prepare and get some movement. You can do some body weight movements, such as
push-ups, sit-ups, squats, planks and even walk or jog in place.
It’s a perfect time to reset and implement daily movement. Creating good habits will help keep
your movement going even when the weather isn’t so enjoyable.
